You have thousands of photos. When did you last look at one?

A modern phone holds ten years of photographs: first days of school, the trip that went wrong in the best way, ordinary Tuesday evenings that turned out to matter. Almost none of it gets seen again. Reminisce exists to change that.

The camera roll problem

Taking a photo is free, so we take thousands. Looking back is not free: it takes time, a reason and a scroll through years of screenshots, receipts and near-identical shots to find the picture you had in mind. So the archive grows and the looking stops. The photographs that would mean the most, the ones from years ago, are exactly the ones buried deepest.

Why "On this day" is not enough

Phones and photo services try to help with automatic memories: a slideshow on this date from an earlier year, or a carousel at the top of the app. They only work if you open the app, they pick by calendar rather than by meaning, and they treat each day in isolation. A random Tuesday from 2019 is not a memory. The week you spent by the lake, told in order with the best pictures, is.

What Reminisce does instead
